Apply - 3 Easy Steps

Apply Now  Resume Application

Upgrade Your Browser: When applicants do not have I.E. explorer 6.0 or better the electronic application will experience technical difficulties. Please leave the application, upgrade your browser, and begin a new application under a different login and pin. You will also need to disable any and all tool bars that you have installed, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. To do so, go to Tools, Manage Add-Ons, Enable or Disable Add-Ons, look for all tool bars and disable them.

Electronic Letters of Recommendation: Applicants now have the option to have letters of recommendation submitted online by recommenders. If you elect to have your letters submitted electronically, please note:

  1. Recommenders are only notified after your application has been completed and submitted.
  2. It is the applicants responsibility to verify that recommenders have received the notification. Graduate Admissions will not send additional notifications. You may not change online recommenders after your application has been submitted. If you entered an inaccurate e-mail address, or wish to change a recommender, you must submit these recommendations via paper or fax.

Checking your Application Status

  1. In most cases, applicants may check their status online within 24 hours, if they completed their application before 4pm EST. In some instances, such as weekends or national holidays, it may take up to 96 hours for your online status to be available.
  2. RUID: Your Rutgers Identification Number, or RUID will be sent to you in a separate e-mail. In most cases, this number will be sent to you within 48 hours of application, but an additional 48 hours may be required on weekends or national holidays.

Additional Information

Deadlines: Domestic application deadlines vary by program. Applicants living abroad must apply by November 1 for spring and by April 1 for fall unless the graduate program specifies an earlier deadline.

Check application status: Online applicants can check their status within 24 hours of online fee payment.

Nondegree graduate study: Nondegree students should complete the general online application and select 'Nondegree Study' when asked. Many graduate schools and programs offer nondegree graduate study. Before applying, check the schedule of classes for course availability. It is also recommended that you contact the graduate program prior to enrollment. In most cases, neither letters of recommendation, transcripts, nor test scores are required for nondegree study. Please consult with the graduate program for more information. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. Non-native speakers of English and those whose bachelor’s degrees were obtained outside the United States must submit a current Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score. Nondegree graduate study is not available to international students outside of the country or in the US under F visa status. In most cases, students are limited to taking a total of 12 cumulative credits as nondegree students. In addition, in most cases, students are limited to taking a maximum of 6 credit hours per semester of enrollment.

Programs of study: Apply for only one degree within a program. Consult the index of graduate programs to find information on degrees offered, program deadlines, campus locations, and specific application requirements.

Multiple applications: You may apply to more than one graduate program by returning to your original application and selecting 'Apply to Another Program.' (Do not begin a new application under a different student ID.) Do not submit mulitple applications for the same program.   Since each program usually has its own admissions committee, each application requires a separate fee and separate supporting materials which should be specific to the program sought.

Reapplication: To reapply to the same program, submit a letter requesting reapplication along with a $65 application fee, a new letter of recommendation, and an updated personal statement. Contact the program to determine if additional credentials are required. If more than a year has elapsed since the first application, repeat the entire admissions process. Physical therapy and programs in applied psychology require a new application and set of credentials for any reapplication.

Fee Waivers: McNair scholars and other applicants eligible for fee waivers, should indicate on the application in the Academic Honors and Awards area that they are McNair scholars or that they fall into another fee waiver category. When they submit the application, they should not pay the fee. A letter documenting their eligible fee waiver status should be provided with their supporting credentials.

Tuition and Fees: A complete table of graduate tuition and fees may be obtained on the Student Accounting website. Tuition and fees are established every July.

Quick Tip

When you check your application status, you can see if all of the pieces of your application, such as letters of recommendation, test scores, and transcripts, have been received.
